PRISM
PROJECT
Redesign the PRISM home page
SUMMARY
I redesigned the home page for PRISM to organize the content and make it easier to view the courses and visually more appealing.
ROLE
Lead UI/UX Designer
OCTOBER/DECEMBER 2024
PROJECT BACKGROUND
PRISM (Providing Relevant, Inclusive Support that Matters for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Plus) is an initiative led by the California Department Education (CDE) to provide online training courses to certificated employees.
I was tasked to redesign the website to help organize the content of the website and also improve the visuals.
OLD DESIGN
STARTING THE PROJECT
Problem The client wasn’t satisfied with the current design - they felt the current design did not fully represent the program. The design was “boring” and “flat”. The client didn’t like the pictures (the images in the screenshot were placeholder images from the website).
Design Audit Before diving into the project I conducted an audit and made note of inconsistencies, accessibility issues, visual elements and how to improve the user experience.
What did I do? After I audited the old design I started organizing the content on the page without worrying about the style elements.
Once I had all the content laid out I started to add UI elements. I did a quick brainstorm of what pops up when I hear LGBTQ+ and what it means to mean. When I think of LGBTQ+ and the word PRISM I think of bright beautiful colors.
NEW DESIGN
FINAL THOUGHTS
I had so much fun working on this project. Looking back on the design I’m proud of what I accomplished in the short amount of time (I was yo-yoing between other projects) however I wish I had more time to focus on the visual transition from one section to another.
