THE STAART OF THE PROJECT
July - August 2024
FAST STAART (Stockton Takes Action Against Retail Theft) is a program created by the District Attorney’s Office & Greater Stockton Chamber of Commerce to help combat retail theft for local businesses in the San Joaquin County.
Stockton holds a special place in my heart (I used to visit my grandparents when they were alive) so when I was asked to be a part of the project I was so excited! Stockton is unfortunately notoriously known for crime, so it was exciting to play a part in helping to combat crime.
July 2024 - I was pulled in to the project to help my team design the website since the time frame to design the website/app was incredibly short (about 1 month - no pressure right?).
I was in charge of designing the front facing page (4 pages - Home Page, About, Resources and Merchant Camera Grant).

STAARTING THE DESIGN
Before I started the design I took time to reflect on the purpose of the website, which was to encourage merchants and civilians to download the app. I decided to place the store badges and images of the app as much as I could.
The program manager for the FAST STAART (also happens to be the same person who came up with the app) graciously provided a lo-mid fidelity wireframe to build upon.
Lo-Mid Fidelity Wireframes
When designing the pages I chose to use the colors dark blue and yellow throughout the design to enforce the feeling of warm, safety and cheerfulness. Working with my team we searched for images that would be relatable to our target audience (merchants and civilians).
DESIGN AUDIT
I conducted QA for both the front facing website I designed and also the FAST STAART App to ensure the designs matched the prototypes. I measured and recorded the severity of the errors using an excel sheet.
THOUGHTS
The last couple of months were a blur with constant changes and the pressure to meet a short deadline. I’m grateful and so proud to be part of a team where we all left our egos at the door and worked together to complete both the website and app on time. While I was designing the front page I leaned in for help from my team to search for images and provide helpful feedback.
Although the design is functional, there were a few missed opportunities that could have made the website stand out more but with the tight deadline it was difficult to accomplish.
